Why I went Red Bull

Some people have ask "Why did you go Red Bull after the whole Metrostars and Red Bull problem". Heres some history behind the whole thing.

The Metros founded in 1996, the only team to use New Jersey in its name NY/NJ Metrostars (probly the main reason we sucked). We had never made it past the first leg of the playoffs. Could never keep a steady coach or ever get that Stadium built. Yes we had the plans and owned the land to build the damn stadium since like '98. But we did have some very well know players come from the Metros, such as:

  • Tim Howard a goalie we lost to Manchester United in a transfer
  • Eddie Pope and great defender for the US national team
  • Clint Mathis now a MLS Cup Champion and a former US national team player
  • Jozy Altidore granted he only played in a Metro jersey once before Red Bull came Metro get the credit cause they drafted him.
  • Michael Bradley which is on one of the best notable US national teams in year.
  • Also Bob Bradley the father of Michael Bradley who was one of the best coaches Metro ever had, is now coach the present US national team.

So that is just some of the many of the Metros notable players. But then again we sold them off instead of keeping them on the team to improve are club and the popularity of the club in NYC. Yes maybe the players might not of reached there full greatness as they are now, but Landon Donovan has done it why couldn't they.

Then came the buying of Metro by Red Bull which sent shock waves thought the MetroFanatic's hearts and we couldn't believe it we started the season as Metro but to be bought by a energy drink company. I remember going to see the "New face of soccer in NY" when I had my Metrostars ticket in hand while watch the team come out in nothing more then a red t shirt with a giant red bull logo on the front everyone around looked in awww as "where are the Red and Black stripes" then this video came on the big screen on Giants Stadium....

Shortly after that this came on....

So could you blame some of us for hating Red Bull many have boycotted the games. Even most players did the management of the team after firing all the staff that Red Bull did the players started to walk off the field and join the Fans in bowing not the players the Suits that let the team be bought and used to sell an energy drink. We went though 3 couches that season most ever in MLS history also an all-time low of a fan base (Metro fans were alowed to get a refund on tickets) MLS thought they made a big boo boo by selling the team. But then surely the Red Bulls found a way to plant ass in those seats again have a fan day were tickets were have off and have a pre game show which involed sky divers and motocross tricks and best yet Pele came to sign the kick off ball. Then they had a half time show with hit artist at the time Shakira. The season went on then all the Metrostar fans came back for only 2 games the New England game which was tied 0-0 and then the DC United game (only because we hate them to clubs), the DC United game was bad the first goal they scored on use Mr. Jaime Moreno had a can of Red Bull on the sidelines and Drank it and spit it back out with a smerk on his face. At that point we had couldn't just sit back and take this. Everyone seemed to get loud, I personally think that was the loudest the crowd got all season back in 2006. But wait at the end of the Season Red Bull released the plays to Red Bull Park which was due to open in 2008. Then we all started coming back slowly cause it was to hard to not support the team. It was what we always wanted a place to call home. For 3 Years the supporters would never say the word Red Bull it would be Metrostars or New York. So we basically supported the team not the name. The club went though promises of a DP (Designated Player) which we finally got and his name was JUAN PABLO ANGLE!!!! Some people say we only bought him due to the high amount of Latino's in the crowd. But even if they did man oh man what a player. He was only there for half a season maybe not even but he won over the crowd. He alone I think bought back many old Metro fans. That player did cost us something though.... are stadium which was now delayed til 2009. So yet again let down by Red Bull. But then again we did get to the MLS finals which was lost in but it got us all ready for Red Bull Arena which was opening mid 2009 season. Which then came another message telling us.... 2010.... now were not happy the 2009 season was not good the stadium isn't here and Red Bull doesn't seem to care for us at all. The rumor went around saying Red Bull is selling the team MlS stated no there not no one believe them at all. Finished the MLS season with the worse recored ever in MLS history. But that ok will have are Stadium next year right. Yes they maybe turn but we need Red Bull to help the Club not just make logos and plaster them everywhere so they can sell there product.

Thats some very long history for you about the team(s) my thing was I hated supporting other teams cause all the players for Red Bull were Metrostars and what was I gunna do support another MLS team go to one game a year in person and boooo my old team. No so I started to support the Red Bulls even though sometimes the big voice in the stadiums messes up the name and calls us Metrostars from time to time lol. But we will always remember the boy in Red in Black.

Heres something that will never die even at Red Bull Arena....
